Patagonia: Common Threads program

I was in Patagonia the other week on Pearl St. in Boulder. I was just browsing but, of course, their gear is great and it is hard to leave without getting anything. Fortunately, I didn't have my wallet. But I did notice a Recycling Program stand in the shop, where you can drop off your used clothing, which is then recycled into new clothing.  That's pretty damn cool.  They are only taking the following items:

  • Patagonia fleece (including Synchilla┬« and Regulator┬« insulation)
  • Polartec┬« fleece from other manufacturers
  • Capilene baselayers
  • Patagonia cotton T-shirts

Patagonia just seems like they are the leading example in making environmentally responsible outdoor gear and integrating the cradle-to-cradle ideals into their business.
